The bar seemed the best place on 27th October as 45-50mph Force 8 winds hit Notts County, spray was whipped into mini water spouts up to 10ft high, as waves crashed on the opposite shore, and occasionally the safety boats where obscured by spray.

Needless to say racing and the windsurfing open was cancelled, but that didn't stop half a dozen windsurfers with very small sails (3.3 to 4.2 sq m) braving the cold a squalls. Here are a few shots!
