The laser open had a good entry with 35 boats and a good number of travellers and Notts County Sailing Club sailors. The Open was sponsored by Gill, Musto, Gull, Desilico and Laser Performance so there were lots of goodies up for grabs.
The Notts county SC laser open meeting got away with race one starting with 8-11 mph wind with blue sky and great conditions. First to the top mark was Richard Mason followed by Chris Willamson following close behind the two leaders got around missing a strange gust, where boats were literally pointing in opposite directions, some going backwards, others nearly planning, this allowed them to take a good lead. Chris showed his skill by passing down wind of Richard and going on to win the race. Tom Smith managed to beat dad Andrew yippeeee.
Race two got away with a family affair with Andrew Smith leading from start to finish followed Tom Smith until Tom fell out of the boat and dropped a couple of places, experience over youth perhaps!
Lunch was followed by a 90 degree wind shift and a couple of recalls Chris rounded the top mark first followed by Richard with Luke Seagraves third. It was neck and neck for the two leaders but Richard from Notts County managed to get passed Chris and go on to win the race and first overall with Chris finishing second followed by Andrew Smith in third overall.
Great racing was had all over the fleet with prises going to junior youth master grand master and lady.
Many thanks to David Snutch and his team for setting and running some great racing.
