With a poor forecast and the BBC warning everyone not to do outdoor activities due to the wind we were wondering how many may turn out to Try Sailing. We needn’t have worried nearly 140 singed up and went out on the water, sailing in cobbles, Wayfarer and the Stratos. A good number also tried windsurfing on the simulator and on the water with very small sails.
There were lots of smiles, and interest in coming back, doing course and getting into our wonderful sport. Whilst the 30mph gusts were a little to much for those racing (not surprisingly) the windsurfers cracked open their underused small sails and had a great time, the sun even came out for a while.
Thanks to all the volunteers, safety drivers, windsurfers, sailors and those on the desks which made it successful. Gareth Brookes from the RYA (Midlands Development manager) thanked the club “who as usual risen to the challenge”. “It was just fantastic so get over 140 people to try sailing for the first time! There were so many smiley faces if was infectious, a really fun day for all. Many thanks to Notts County Sailing Club for opening their doors to the public”
