Noble Marine Scorpion Inland Championships at Notts County Sailing Club
The Scorpion Inlands came to Notts County 6/7th May 2017, with just under 30 boats entered and some great conditions it was set to be a good weekend of close racing – with the odd bit of social on Saturday night!
The Noble Marine Scorpion Inlands saw a good turnout of just under 30 boats for a great weekend of sailing at Notts County Sailing Club. The wind was strong enough for the odd spill, and some planing, but never to strong, with a good variety of conditions.
The two leading contenders soon showed themselves, always ending up at the front of the fleetv in every race, and indeed at the end they were separated by a point. Peter Gray and Richard Pepperdine from Staunton Harold just piping Tom and Penny Jeffcote (originally from Notts County and now sailing for their home club Shoreham SC). In third place only a few points behind was Andy Mcee and Paul Newman from Dovestone.
As can be seen competitors arrived from all over the country and the atmosphere was competitive but very friendly, no doubt aided by a good Saturday evening!
Saturday saw overcast conditions, but some good wind and Ken Twemlow the Race Officer ensured there was plenty of beating and spinnaker work on all points of sailing. Sunday was a little lighter with some more sunshine but equally close racing.
First Lady was Rach Rhodes & Hannah Edge from Staunton, and second lady (and first Junior) was our own Chloe Willars who had a great meeting, crewed by Amy Clay from Notts County Sailing Club.
Thanks to Noble Marine for their support, and Nicola & Jon Willars and family for their organisation.
