It is with great sadness we have to report Barry Rawlins passed away last Friday. He was a gentle man in all senses of the word (s). Barry joined Notts County in 1989 and very soon became fully involved in the club, not only enjoying the sailing but becoming membership secretary for three years (1990-1993), and after that Honorary Secretary for a number of years till 200. He has sailed ever since at the club and introduced his son Josh to sailing, and is lying 8th in the class racing this year, we hope Josh will be able to continue sailing, it will be very sad to see Scorpion 1865 without its normal helm.
Barry died at 14:28 yesterday afternoon, 29th September. I was having a rest while my friend Cath and our eldest son toJosh were sitting with B. Cath came and got me because Barry became slightly agitated. I lay next to him and told him he could let go, that he’d done everything he needed to for us, that he could put up the kite and let the wind take him. I reminded him of all of you who love him, how much happiness he’s given.
He gave a little start, opened and closed his eyes, two or three spaced out breaths, and died.
He was so in control and determined to the end. What an amazing strong gorgeous man.
Boys weren’t there but have been up to see him. Josh helped me pick out some clothes.
We’ll update you re service timing, it’ll be ten days or two weeks at least I guess.
I’m ok, so sad, feeling the unfairness, but so glad to have found and had and made a family with the love of my life.
We wish all the family all the best, Katheryn Hinsliff-Smith is in touch with the family.
