The club organised a highly successful Push the Boat Out on 12th May 2018. Hundreds turned up to see the club with over 220 signed up to go on the water. The weather was a little light in the morning, so powerboat rides were popular, but soon the wind filled in a little and the Stratos and Cobbles were pressed into action, with some transfers taking place on water. Saturday Club provided an excellent backdrop in the morning, and Saturday racing took place in the afternoon.
The club house and balcony was full of happy smiling faces, Pauline ran short of food and the bar under Martin did good trade in the warm weather. I hesitate to mention names as I am going to miss to many club members who also worked very hard to make this a successful day. The greetings team headed by Adrian, Sarah and Joyce on the rear balcony worked all day explaining, encouraging potential members (and several signed up there and then) and filling up future courses. The getting on the water team headed by Ross was busy giving out buoyancy aids and placing everyone on appropriate boats and craft, so everyone got out, there were still queues but in the warm dry weather no one seemed to mind. Instructors then took the visitors out on the water, whilst the powerboat team looked after safety. I didn’t count but I would suspect upwards of 40 members were involved.
Meanwhile in the clubhouse the Cake by the Lake team were busy displaying some excellent cakes, and icing hundreds of cakes courtesy of Paul Brown (Sweet Success), Tracy, Jane, Susan, Helen & Jo. The charity cake stall raised £510 for Sail4Cancer – an amazing effort – well done.
The afternoon saw The RYA National Communications Officer down with team to video us, we think they were very impressed with the Club of the Year, and got some good footage, so keep an eye on the National social media feeds (and subscribe!). Adrian was interviewed along with the Migilore family and Team 15 windsurfers.
An excellant day down to a whole club team effort showing why we are Club of The Year – thanks everyone and hopefully we will see more of the many visitors.
