Scorpion open 2018

The Scorpion meeting started with a bang, well several actually as three masts (I believe) went in the first and only race. It was warm nearly 22’C and windy 35 knots (force 8) not long before the start but gusting 30 knots in the race (force 7). Few were foolhardy or good enough to venture out and safety was kept busy (hence lack of photos!). William Jeffcote the race officer decided that was enough carnage for one day, so racing was sensibly abandoned. Chris Massey and Hannah Edge from Hollingworth won with Tom Jeffcote and Tim Hartley from Hollowell (and ex Notts County – Nadina & Williams son) second, the first Notts County boat was Nigel Potter and Alex Piggot in fifth.

Nadina Lincoln put on a rules quiz and the windsurfers enjoyed the conditions and the evening saw a Pauline Roast.

Sunday was wet, and 10’C cooler, by wet it was solid rain all three races which were held back to back. the wind was light but nearly all the 20 entrants sailed. Nigel Potter won the first race then it was Andy mcKee and Steve Graham (Northampton SC) who took the final two races to win the meeting overall. Tom Jeffcote and Tim Hartley were second in the final two races giving them second overall and Nigel Potter was third, meaning he was a point behind, so it was close. Nadina Lincoln was first lady and Chloe Willars first Junior (in a borrowed boat).
