Notts County hosted the Scorpion Inlands sponsored by Craftinsure over 22/23rd May water lockdown eased.
Briefing and entry were all online too reduce contact, and 28 Scorpions entered the Notts County SC open, an excellent turnout in view of the situation.
It was a little cool for May, but the blue waters meant no weed. The wind however was playing games for the race officers, Ken Twemlow and William Jeffcote, after the first race it swung at least 90′ then after a general recall swung partially back, not only that it varied from a light breeze to occasionally very little.
Racing on Saturday started soon after noon with five back to back races, to reduce to much crossover on shore. Afterwards there was a self service curry on the balcony outside where everyone could spread out. Tom Gilliard and Rachael Rhodes led by 5 points from Peter Gray, with Tom Jeffcote and Mark hogan in third a few points behind, sp plenty to play for the following day.
Sunday was windier and again overcast, and early start saw three races squeezed in, back to back allowing finish with time to travel back home at a reasonable time, a complete contrast to the light winds the previous day. there where plenty of spills throughout the fleet on the downwind legs.
The wind didn’t effect the overall position with Tom and Rachael picking up two further wins to win by a large margin, second and third also kept their overnight positions. first lady was Chloe Willars. Full results linked here.
