Windsurf Open

A successful windsurf open saw over 25 entries, sailing in a light northerly wind.

Race Officer James Logan set a windward leeward course for the first two races before lunch, with a more traditional downwind course for the three races after lunch.

The largest class was the 7.5 with a good number of veterans on the water on the smaller sail size along with a few visitors. Tony Goodwin won by a good margin from Russ Towns, with Kevin Fish third. It was great to see Graeme Perks back on the water completing three races.

The 9.5 class saw Notts County Gerry Ball dominate, his main rival Guy Spreckley race officering the junior Team 15 sailors. Oliie Bednall was third (on discard) and Ian Plikington second.

The Techno class saw three sail sizes, the most competitive being the 7.8 which was won by Dylan Gardham from Glossop Gladiators. Mollie Spreckley from Notts County may have been on equal points (but a worse discard) if she hadn’t missed out a buoy like many of the 7.5 fleet. Third was Alex Thompson from Glossop.

Carter Love from Thrapston sea Sea Cadets won the 5.8 and Andrew Smithson from Glossop the 6.8 techno.

The Junior Team 15ers on 4.5 sails had some excellent racing, with coaching thrown in by Guy Spreckley. They managed 8 short races with Owen Silcock from Glossop winning, Sofia Melodic was second and Amelia Gay from Burton third.

The Team 15 team prize went to Glossop Gladiators by a good margin. Prizes included a framed photo – if anyone didn’t get one please contact info@ncsc.org.uk

The meeting finished with a takeaway roast and sweet by the club caterer Pauline.
