Aero Inlands

Notts County at Aero Inlands

Five of the Notts County Aero fleet travelled to Draycote water at the weekend (19th/20th October).

Saturday dawned rather wet and miserable with all five competitors braving the rain (and spray) to travel to Warwickshire for the Aero 5, 6, 7, and 9 Inland Championships. Throughout the morning the weather improved significantly providing sunshine and changeable wind speeds, varying from 5 to 15kts from a westerly direction. Four races were held on the Saturday, with a tentative plan to hold the remaining three on the Sunday (subject to wind strengths).

Hayden and Joe got off to a good start with a 2nd, 3rd and 1st, 1st respectively. Rebecca had a somewhat difficult first race with a 5th, significantly improving to a 2nd in the second race. Alan and Julian consistent over the course of the first day. A notable mention must go to Joe for an involuntary swim in the third race (quite literally). Saturday came to a close with Rebecca deciding to quit while she was ahead, and head home with the boat on the Saturday evening.

Sunday dawned with slightly lighter breeze than forecast so the race team went ahead with the first race as planned. However, not long into this race the winds got up and it soon became a ‘hang on for the ride’ sort of race! Several competitors completed the first race (Joe, Hayden and Jullian included). However, the race team decided that that was enough for the day and abandoned the racing for the day.

Congratulations to Joe for becoming Aero 7 Inland Champion for the second year running!

Hayden secured a third overall in the Aero 5s. Rebecca was third overall and first female in the Aero 6 fleet. Alan secured a 6th overall (even without sailing on the Sunday). As did Julian (who did brave the breeze on the Sunday)!
