Notts County Sailing Club Awards evening 2020

Saturday evening saw a very smartly dressed crowd of Notts County sailors, friends and family descend on The Nottinghamshire for the Nottinghamshire County Sailing Club’s annual Awards Evening charity event.  This year’s event was in supporting RYA Sailability – looking to build on and develop our facilities supporting this activity – and the evening raised a grand £300 towards this great initiative.
From the volume of chatter and greetings at the raucous drinks in the bar on arrival it was clear that the guests were up for making a night of it and after the delectable dinner and the traditional talk from the Commodore, the attendees happily witnessed the presentation of the prizes and awards for the 2019 season.   The vice-commodore, Martin, and team efficiently proceeded through the glittering glassware and twinkling trophies to leave lots of opportunity for dancing to the terrific tunes put out by the Blurred Mondays duo.  The fact that the dance floor was always full up the end of the evening, which saw some impressive Scottish folk snakes – you had to be there – weaving to Edinburgh’s own The Proclaimers finishing things off.
The evening saw a special mention of Tim Cripp’s well deserved RYA Volunteer Award and a nautically themed gift to John Marshall in recognition of his many years supporting the club, and especially the many new members who John has gently ushered into the Notts County community.  The awards presentation culminated with the three important Endeavour trophies which, for the 2019 season, went to Molly Spreckley, Sam Grayton and John Davie.  Well done to them and all the other prize winners.  The evening couldn’t work without all the work from the organising and trophy team – too many to mention – so a great big thank you goes out to them all.
We are already creating plans for another fabulous event in 2021, look out for the early warning of the date and prepare to mark it up in your calendars.
In the meantime there is the important matter of getting out on the water for what promises to be a tremendous 2020 sailing season.  I look forward to seeing you all on the water or around the club.  Happy sailing. James Logan.
