August bank holiday weekend
The August bank holiday weekend started with Saturday Club, and a talk to parents about youth Race Squad, if you missed this Kathryn has a video.
Sunday was an interesting day, a little windy for some (not Kevin and others of course) the odd breakage but a great day for windsurfers and windfoilers. The evening say Gerry & Fran preparing cocktails, and a few pints of Nottingham legend poured (still plenty left) along with a bring your own picnic and BBQ.
August bank holiday was a family fun day at Notts County Sailing Club as well as a 6hr relay race for the more competitive! We were lucky with the weather, as strong winds had been forecast for the weekend, but we had a nice breeze with some gusts, and sun! Teams for the relay race got together, and selected their dinghies; Laser 2000, skiffs and RS400. After an exciting ‘Le Mans’ start – running down shore to launch their boats! The racing got underway with a straightforward triangle course.
Meanwhile family fun activities were ongoing, many families having camped at the club over the previous week whilst attending training courses. Up to 20 people had a windsurf taster session. Others tried paddleboarding and dinghy sailing. On shore, we had a couple of creative activities; making an Olympic symbol – learning a couple of knots to tie hula hoops and suspend them from a beam – trying to get the colours in the correct order. The other creative activity was drawing and colouring on a template to design a new logo for the club’s youth race team – as we develop youth development in the new RYA strategy.
There were other games and BBQ lunch; then children were presented with certificates for participation. Celeste won a medal for her design ideas. The relay race was completed, with the winners being the RS400 team, led by John Tailby.
Thanks to Ade & Viv on safety, and John and others on balcony, and many other helpers.Â
The windsurf tasters were a great success many getting going for the first time thanks to Gerry, Dean, Olly and Carol.
