20th May 2023 - Discover Sailing - public open Day

Discover Sailing – Open Day

The annual Notts County Sailing Club Open Day, part of the RYA Discover Sailing Initiative is due to take place 20th May 2023. It is a great way to try sailing at a local club for free.

Our club is located 12 miles East of Nottingham and we have members from Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

All you need to do is come along on the day, register and borrow a buoyancy aid from us. It is a good idea to bring spare shoes that can get wet, a waterproof top, and warm clothes if the weather is poor, and lots of sun-cream if the sun is shining.

There will be plenty of club members on hand to talk about sailing, how to start and answer any other questions you might have about sailing as a sport.

We will be taking photos on the day which may be used nationally – if you do not wish to appear then please let us know.

We intend to have windsurfing so if you wish to experience Windsurfing please bring your own wetsuit, and if conditions are favourable we will try and get you out on a board, otherwise there will be a shore based simulator at points in the day.

Information about the members WeSUP group and there should be some SUPs to try, a wetsuit or change of cloths is recommended, you will get wet at least to your knees getting on board.

Food and drinks will be available, as well as our popular “Cake by the Lake” stand with proceeds going to charity. Do bring a cake if you can (it doesn’t need to be homemade) and of course buy plenty of cake to raise money.

You can also watch some club racing and training including the children’s Saturday Club and of course we will have information for you to take away.

We hope you can make it and maybe you will get bitten by the sailing bug – be warned sailing can be an addictive sport for all the family and for life.

If you have any questions about the day please feel free to contact us below
