RYA Dinghy Courses
All our RYA courses are run at Notts Country Sailing Club, on our extensive water near Hoveringham. Our facilities include a wide range of dinghies, (add link to boat page) training rooms, changing facilities, showers, and accessible facilities for disabled sailors. Along with a clubroom where drinks are available. Hot and cold food is often available too.

We provide a RYA Syllabus and Logbook as part of the course and have other material available to purchase to support the courses.
Our student instructor ratios are 6:1 in accordance with the RYA guidance, but generally better, and safety boat coverage is always on duty.
Please note , to aid boat allocation, we ask for weight and height on youth courses (under 16s). If under 16s have their own boat please state that on the booking form (Qu 2 about you).

Please register interest for 2024 courses, there is no obligation or payment required (hence arbitrary dates December) by registering interest you will be contacted with information when available (and have first options on dates).
RYA Levels 1 (Start Sailing) and 2 (Basic Skills) are combined to provide a course for people with little or no knowledge of sailing. This 4/ 5 day course is designed for complete beginners. There are practical and theory sessions spread throughout the course and on completion you should be able to helm a dinghy in good conditions.)
Better Sailing RYA level 3 course, with the aim of consolidating Level 1 & 2 skills and taster sessions from advanced modules.
Launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning around, steering and basic parts of the boat. Able to sail across the wind, steer and understand the basic principles of sailing
Content Stage 2
Improved sailing skills on all points of sail. Tacking, gybing, ropework and collision avoidance. Building confidence sailing, tacking, gybing and improving boat control and speed
Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery
Able to launch and sail a dinghy on all points of sail or around a triangle in moderate conditions.
Stage 4
Transferring pre-learnt skills (Stage 3), techniques and manoeuvres to sail crewed boats, enhance rigging, launching, recovery and practical skills to recover a man overboard. Can sail a double-handed boat on all points of sail. Launch and return to a beach, jetty or mooring in moderate conditions.
All the skills required to start club racing, including basic start sequences and timing; improved tacking and gybing, using the 5 essentials to best effect and having a basic understanding of the racing rules. Able to take part in small race in good conditions
