May Bank Holiday course
Well the promised for sun decided to stay behind a grey overcast sky, so the warmth from the previous week was missing, and the wind increased.
Twelve youngsters, 3 adults were on the dinghy course, and 6 on windsurfing course. pretty well everyone achieved a certificate.
The youth course saw Phil, Chloe, Brian and Kathryn instructing and took 6 youngsters from sailing randomly in circles to sailing round a small course in the Oppies, all achieved Stage 1 Youth. Chris, Sam and Cillian had the stage 2 with the new Terras, which proved to be excellent boats to learn in, Toppers etc. They ended up the three days by sailing right up the lake to buy 5 and back a great achievement when you look at how they started on Tuesday.
The adults had two days in the Stratos then a final day on Topaz so they could experience crewed and unscrewed boats, all achieved Level 1.
With the windsurfers Steve & Tom had an interesting time, but two adults completed Start Windsurfing and 2 youngsters Stage 1 and one Stage 2 youth windsurfing.
Thank to all the instructors and Safety crew – especially Steve and not forgetting the shore team of Fiona and Peter and many parent helpers, and of course Pauline for food. Thank you also to Ruth for the delicious helpers brownies !
Everyone left with a sense of achievement and a smile on their face – and that is what sailing in any form is about.
